Green light for Holland Casino in Eelderwolde

Holland Casino Groningen will establish itself in Eelderwolde in 2027. The Tynaarlo municipal council gave the green light for the establishment of the gambling palace. Only the Christian Union and CDA voted against.

The Christian parties in Tynaarlo have ‘principled objections’ to the arrival of a casino. “Every euro gambled away is one too many,” said Henny van der Born (Christian Union).

The other parties therefore voted in favor, but provided responsible councilor Jurryt Vellinga (Liveable Tynaarlo) with a number of comments. “We are voting in favor, although we have to look closely at the proposal to see why this is a good idea,” said Herman van Os (D66). “We had to hear in the media that the total area of the casino is 4,100 square meters, we could not even get that clear from the text.”

Marcel Elzerman (Liveable Tynaarlo) told his councilor to urge Holland Casino for more prevention of addiction care. Elzerman is also considering deploying more experienced experts in the casino. These experienced experts should be able to help inveterate gamblers with addiction problems. Vellinga indicated that he would take this into account, but also said that he could not enforce it.

Jacob van Gelder (Municipal Interests) called the soap that started after it became known that Holland Casino Groningen would establish itself in Eelderwolde, ‘free advertising’. “For two weeks Tynaarlo was in the headlines of media throughout the country. It couldn’t be better.”

He did advise the councilor to insist on a name change for the casino. “I think Holland Casino Tynaarlo is much better.”

In response to the decision of the Tynaarlo municipality, Holland Casino CEO Petra de Ruiter said she was pleased with the impending move. “The enthusiasm of the council and the Tynaarlo city council gives us full confidence that we will have a very good collaboration. The ultimate goal is to once again have a Holland Casino Groningen that everyone can be proud of.”
