After another review of planned cycle paths along Berlin’s main streets, 16 of them can now be built.
Three cycle paths – Stubenrauchstraße in Neukölln, Roedernallee in Reinickendorf and Blankenfelder Chaussee in Pankow – will not come for the time being. This was announced by Transport Senator Manja Schreiner (CDU) on Thursday after completing the one-month tests through her house.
According to the information, some of the cycle paths that have now been finally approved have mostly been subject to minor changes to the original plans in order to increase road safety. This also includes those on Hauptstraße and Grunewaldstraße in Schöneberg, which have recently been the subject of particularly intensive public discussion.
The new Senator for Transport, Schreiner, announced a few weeks ago that plans for certain cycle paths and the usefulness of certain projects would be put to the test – not least with regard to the elimination of car parking spaces.
The announcement had caused a lot of criticism and controversial debates about the transport policy of the new black-red Senate. All test results from the task force deployed by Schreiner are now available. “It was a tour de force, which my employees mastered in a highly motivated and solid manner,” she explained.
“The task force deployed to take a holistic view of the traffic situation will also form the basis of our future work.”
