“It would be fun to work with her. “She’s talented,” says Billie Joe Armstrong.
Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong has expressed interest in working with Olivia Rodrigo. But how specific does it really become?
“I listen to them, but I don’t buy any of their records.”
Armstrong’s admiration for Rodrigo was clear in the interview with Vulture. The issue arose when parallels were drawn between Green Day’s 2004 album AMERICAN IDIOT and the pop-dot music of 20-year-old Rodrigo.
The 51-year-old Green Day singer said of Rodrigo’s music: “I listen to them, but I don’t buy any of their records or stream them. It passes me by. When I hear her, I think it sounds good.” And then he elaborated: “I think it would be fun to work with her sometime. She’s talented.”
“I am something like an encyclopedia”
Furthermore, Billie Joe Armstrong would find a collaboration exciting for the following reason: “Sometimes you can see that someone is interested in punk rock, but maybe doesn’t have quite the influences or knowledge that I have about the history of punk rock. I’m like an encyclopedia.”
Olivia Rodrigo has not yet commented on a possible joint track or anything similar.
