Green bosses: Lowering the electricity tax does not help the industry

NUREMBERG (dpa-AFX) – In the debate about cheap electricity for industry, the Greens advocate a state-subsidized price and doubt the benefit of reducing the electricity tax. The particularly energy-intensive industry is already exempt from this tax, said party leader Ricarda Lang on Thursday at a meeting of the federal executive board in Nuremberg. The relief measure favored by the FDP does nothing for these companies.

Co-party leader Omid Nouripour was optimistic that the traffic light coalition would find a compromise. He was “in good spirits that we will come to a solution,” said Nouripour. The industry needs a temporary cap on the price of electricity – “until we have the renewables ready”. He is glad that the SPD now sees it the same way. The FDP, on the other hand, rejects an industrial electricity price, Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) is at least skeptical./tam/DP/jha
