Anyone who wants to cut down a forest in Flanders and applies for a permit will receive a positive advice in 9 out of 10 cases. This is apparent from figures collected by Green MP Mieke Schauvliege. “Virtually everyone who wants to cut down forest, gets the necessary permit, even if it concerns old and very valuable forest. That is completely insane,” says Schauvliege. She calls on the Flemish government to “stop the logging drive immediately and work out much stricter conditions”.
