Greekpoor wins convincingly and brings Dutch tennis players alongside Finland

Tallon Greek Spoor brought the Netherlands alongside in the match against Finland in the Davis Cup Finals. The tennis player from Nieuw-Vennep was too strong for Emil Ruusuvuori in two sets: 7-6(7), 6-3. Earlier in the day, Botic van de Zandschulp lost the opening match to Otto Virtanen.

Greekpoor seemed to make a decisive break in the first set at 4-4. The world number 24 was then unable to finish on his own serve. In the tiebreak, Greek Spoor survived beautifully, with a high ball over Ruusuvuori, with a set point behind 7-6. Then he topped it off by winning three points in a row. The second set was less exciting. Greekpoor broke Ruusuvuori at 2-1 and never gave up that lead.

Knockout phase

The Dutch team will face Croatia and the United States in the group stage of the Davis Cup Finals later this week. If the Netherlands finishes among the first two countries, captain Paul Haarhuis’ team will qualify for the knockout phase in Malaga.
