Toyota’s Kalle Rovanperä knows that the conditions of the Akropolis rally will create a great challenge. That was proven already on Thursday morning by the gassed test piece, which went purely for getting used to the kinky conditions.
Surprised by the slippery road, Rovanperä did not dare to say whether he is capable of fighting for victory in Greece.
– We’ll see that later, but at least the shakedown felt pretty rough, to be honest. Much less traction than I thought, so this is not going to be easy. There is no grip at all, the Finn said in an interview with WRC.
Rovanperä has a chance to secure the world championship in Greece, but it requires that the worst threat Ott Tänak remains at least 18 points behind.
The Spanish champion kept the fastest pace on the shakedown Dani Sordo. Rovanperä was six seconds behind the leader.
Akropolis starts properly on Friday morning with the first special tests.
– Friday is definitely a hard day, 2.6 seconds slower than Sordo who cleared the section Esapekka Lappi predicted.
