Greedy Viaplay drives away Finnish F1 fans

Kipuraja came along, writes Iltalehten’s Juuso Taipale.

The duel between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton is exciting to watch on TV. But how much would you pay for this pleasure? PDO

How much is too much?

That’s what many Finnish bench athletes are thinking about now.

On Thursday, Iltalehti reported that Viaplay, which shows formulas, NHL, Premier League and skiing sports on its channels, is raising its prices again.

In the future, sports fans can pay 45 euros per month for the company’s undeniably comprehensive offer.

No matter how comprehensive you are, it’s expensive anyway. In addition to everything, the price has risen by ten in just over a year.

When the purse strings are currently being tightened in several homes, ordering a channel package is increasingly difficult to justify.

In any case, a formula fan should not give a defense speech on behalf of Viaplay to a doubting spouse. There is at least as good at a significantly cheaper price.

Viaplay’s defenders think the package is actually a bargain. I can bear paying for so many top sports in the same package.

The justification is very lame. Do we keep singing this stream, even though the price is constantly rising?

There are two problems with the channel package. First of all, the viewer cannot pay for just one sport. A lot of formula fans would definitely happily accept a package where they would only pay for motor racing, not ice hockey or football. The same words can also be said about the fans of these species.

Viaplay’s bigger problem is caused by itself. At the beginning of the year, the company changed its service so that you can no longer watch the same broadcast on several different devices.

If you used to be able to share an expensive order between a friend or a family member, now this opportunity has also been taken away. It’s hard to see any reason for this other than greed: I want to make every viewer pay full price.

The news of the price increase came at the worst possible time for formula fans.

The rising monthly price is not at least tempting to buy the service. Based on the discussion forums on the Internet, the pain limit seems to have reached many people now.

It’s a real shame. Viaplay’s F1 broadcasts are made by a really professional and iron-clad team. They are innocent of the price increase, but they have to suffer.

Pity hardly anyone orders a channel package. The narration in Finnish can be a reason, since the London dialect, especially not all fans of the old generation, just know that.

Those who understand English hardly think for long where to look for formulas.

While Viaplay raised its prices, the F1 series’ own F1TV service is attracting new customers to its ranks with a fair discount.

For those who subscribe to the F1 TV Pro service for the first time, the formula season 2023 costs 88 euros. For those who already joined the service last year, the price is 110 euros per year.

There is quite a difference from Viaplay’s current price policy of 45 euros per month.

I could copy almost word for word the comment I wrote a year ago on this same topic.

Why would any Finnish F1 fan buy Viaplay when a similar product is available at a much cheaper price?

Kipuraja has arrived.
