Greece: Olympiakos fans storm space

A storm overshadowed the derby in the Greek football Super League between record champions Olympiakos and AEK Athens.

After the 1:3 (0:1), the fans of the hosts stormed onto the lawn of the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium, throwing smoke bombs and seat shells. They were pushed back by the police while the players and those in charge of AEK rushed into the dressing room under the missiles.

Shortly before, Olympiacos President Evangelos Marinakis stormed onto the pitch and verbally attacked the referee. “The scammers and crooks have shown that they have no scruples,” the shipowner complained. “The whole of Greece is disgusted.”

Olympiakos publishes statement

In addition, Olympiacos issued a statement protesting that the Greek Football Federation and the government had “killed football”. The largest club in the country accuses the association of manipulating the championship.

AEK remain level on points with Panathinaikos with the win. Olympiacos is already nine points behind the top duo.
