Greece: Berlin startup Raisin pays employees the workation

A pool, an open-air kitchen and a great view of the sea – this is how Marcel Höschler from Raisin describes the Greek villa that the company makes available to its employees over the winter. The cost point for the company: around 50,000 euros.

Workations increase employee satisfaction and motivation

What employer does that? What may sound like a good joke to many employees has long since arrived in the FinTech sector. In addition to the Berlin startup Raisin, BayernLB, LBBW, DZ Bank and ING Germany also have their employees work abroad from time to time. According to the FAZ, this increases their satisfaction and binds them to the company. “The offer helps to create a collaborative work environment and to strengthen bonds within the teams. Employees are happier and more motivated,” quotes the FAZ Höschler.

In fact, the employees can’t just drive to the Greek villa with friends or family – because that’s where work is supposed to take place. Up to ten Raisin employees can be there at the same time, each for a maximum of one week. To do this, they do not have to go to the HR department, they only have to clarify with their superiors whether they do not have any face-to-face appointments during this period and show a flight ticket with CO2 compensation. Then they can reserve a place in the Raisin Mansion.

Raisin employees from abroad are allowed to work for up to three months a year

This is booked for the winter, and a total of 260 employees can go there. Raisin is a very successful Berlin start-up from the FinTech industry – Goldman Sachs is one of the investors. According to reports in the FAZ, after the lockdowns, the company initially introduced a compulsory presence of two days a week, and this concept was well received by the employees However not. So the concept was changed again, so that all employees are allowed to work from abroad for up to three months a year – as long as they don’t have face-to-face appointments. It doesn’t matter where you are abroad, only countries like China, North Korea and Russia are not allowed for workation.

What is new is that the costs for accommodation in Greece (about thirty kilometers south of Athens) are now also being covered. Whether the Raisin employees will be able to go there every year from now on is not yet certain. However, the attractive home office regulations at many companies in the industry could attract young people in particular – Raisin currently has over 50 vacancies.
