Great victory from battered and inexperienced Young AZ against VVV-Venlo

Young AZ won against VVV-Venlo. At their own Sportpark Kalverhoek it became 4-2 for the Alkmaar promises. Mexx Meerdink was the big man with two goals, including one behind his standing leg.

Young AZ took the lead after five minutes via Mexx Meerdink. The ball landed at his feet and the striker lashed out devastatingly. VVV-Venlo could do little to counter this. The Limburgers did get a huge chance after a grab from Daniel Deen. The keeper released the ball, after which Nick Venema was able to score. He shot very high. Lewis Schouten then doubled the margin.

A free kick from the midfielder ended in goal: 2-0. Completely against the ratio, VVV equalized. It was Venema who outwitted Deen. The goal against did not cause panic for Young AZ, as they continued to attack. Meerdink, for example, released Ernest Poku with a heel in front of the keeper, but the attacker shot high over. Just before the break, Deen made a good save on a good shot from Venema.

Mexx Meerdink scored two goals – Pro Shots / Remko Kool

The Alkmaar youngsters cheerfully continued to attack in the second half. Ricuenio Kewal shot just over just after the break. It was Meerdink, who made his second of the evening. He hit the target on Kewal’s pass: 3-1. An attempt by the striker was averted moments later by goalkeeper Ennio van der Gouw.

The venom was clearly in the tail, after Venema brought back the tension with 3-2. It even seemed to be equalized, but Deen stopped an attempt from Venema from close range. The substitute Ro-Zangelo Daal ended the game by making 4-2. In the 97th minute (!) of the game, Ketting scored the last goal: 4-3.

Young AZ is seventh in the first division due to the victory. Leader PEC Zwolle is the opponent in Zwolle next week.
