Telstar booked a fantastic victory in Rotterdam tonight. Excelsior, FC Volendam’s competitor in the battle for promotion, was defeated 4-1.
The White Lions were immediately in the game thanks to a quick goal from Sven van Doorm. The occasional attacker was the end point of a nice attack: 0-1. Excelsior then had some opportunities, but Telstar scored again. Jip Molenaar shot in from the turn. The defender had stayed up front after a corner kick. For the second time, the assist came in the name of Ozan Kökcü.
Just before halftime, Mats Wieffer took care of the only blemish of the evening. He could easily score, after goalkeeper Ronald Koeman Jr. did not process a pass properly. The ball therefore came in front of the Excelsior midfielder’s feet.
Telstar continues after rest
For a while it seemed that the pressure from the home team would be too much for the Velsenaren, but nothing turned out to be less true. After a foul on Giovanni in the box, Kökcü was allowed to score a penalty. The midfielder made no mistake: 1-3.
Thanks to a number of great saves by Koeman Jr., Telstar won a game in the sequel. Thanks to substitute Anwar Bensabouh, the evening became even more beautiful. In stoppage time, he popped the ball into the cross.
Telstar setup: Koeman Jr.; Kruiver (Overtoom/90), Molenar, Aktas, Vlijter, Blackson (Wolters/80); Vandermeulen (Bensabouh/46), Giovanni (Van Velzen/85), Kökcü; Van Doorm, Plet
