Great saves Van Domselaar help the Orange draw against Sweden at the European Championship

She started on the bench, but came on the field after 22 minutes. The 22-year-old goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar replaced the undisputed Sari van Veenendaal, who dropped out with an injury. Partly due to the fantastic saves, Van Domselaar helped Orange to a point against Sweden in her European Championship debut: 1-1.

In the initial phase, Stefanie van der Graft (Heerhugowaard) bumped into goalkeeper Sari van Veenendaal. The former defender of Ajax Women was able to continue playing, but Van Veenendaal had to be substituted. Her replacement was therefore Van Domselaar (Oudkarspel). She had to concede a goal from Jonna Andersson, who was able to free it after a cross from Kosovare Asslani: 1-0. Asslani had already fired the first warning shot before that, but that effort ended in the side net. Before the end of the first half, Anouk Nouwen was also injured.

Soon after the break, the Orange equalized. After a chance for Vivianne Miedema, the ball ended up at Jill Roord, who shot the ball into the corner: 1-1. Roord can even give the Netherlands the lead in the final phase, but that opportunity was not for her. In the remainder of the game, Van Domselaar kept the Orange Lionesses going several times with saves. The draw was then skilfully crossed the line.

The next group match at the European Championship is July 13 against Portugal.
