The interest in having cats chipped for free is so great that the animal ambulance in Assen is adding an extra day for the chip action. This week, the Animal Protection is asking national attention for chipping the cats. In various places in the country, owners can go with their cats for a chip action.
Anna Mae Bok of the animal ambulance in Assen calls the action a success. “Today we put the chips, but there were so many registrations. We don’t want to disappoint those people, so we have an extra chip day on Wednesday, April 26. This day is actually already full. But we have experienced that chipping goes quite quickly So if people still want to use it, they can send an email. Then we’ll see if there’s still room.”
Bok is happy with the day of action and the interest: “Thanks to this chip campaign, we can reunite cats with owners. Because that’s what it’s all about. Too many cats are not chipped. If we find cats – alive or dead – we read the chip If we don’t find it, we can’t deliver the cat to the owner.”
The chipping is not a major intervention and is therefore quickly done. “The chip is very small, the size of a grain of rice. It is inserted with a hollow needle. The cat hardly feels anything about it, but the importance is so great, so just do it,” says Anna Mae Bok of the animal ambulance.
