Great honor! Bayern legend gets his own trophy

Gerd Müller is one of the biggest club icons at FC Bayern. The legendary Munich striker still holds the all-time Bundesliga record with 365 Bundesliga goals and is still revered around the world a year after his death in August 2021. Now the nation’s bomber even gets his own trophy.

As the French sports newspaper “France Football” announced, there will be a new award in the future, which will be awarded with the “Müller Trophy”. According to the specialist magazine, it should be about an award for a particularly accurate player of the year.

The goals from the competitive games for a club and in the jersey of the national team should be added together. The player with the most hits will then be awarded “The Müller Trophy”.

Müller himself was extremely successful during his work for FC Bayern, both in the club jersey and in the jersey of the German national football team. He needed 427 games for his 365 goals in the German Oberhaus, plus 34 goals in 35 games in the European Cup.

Müller still holds numerous records to this day

The man from Nördlingen made 62 appearances for the national team and scored an outstanding 68 goals. In 1972 Müller became European champion and in 1974 world champion in his own country.

Despite Robert Lewandowski’s eight-year tenure at FC Bayern between 2014 and 2022, he still holds numerous records to this day. In five Bundesliga seasons, Müller scored more goals than he played, and between autumn 1969 and spring 1970 he also scored in 16 consecutive league games, which is also an unmatched record to this day.

His record of 85 goals scored in calendar year 1972 was only improved further in 2012 by Lionel Messi with 91 goals.
