Grease star Olivia Newton-John has died.

The famous singer and actress died peacefully on Monday morning at the age of 73 at her ranch in southern California surrounded by family and friends, as did her husband John Easterling shared on Facebook.

Her big break came in 1978 when she appeared in the musical Grease opposite John Travolta. Her role as Sandy became iconic, as did several songs from the film, “You’re the One that I Want”, “Summer Nights” and “Hopelessly Devoted to You”.

In 1992 she was diagnosed with breast cancer. The actress was able to beat the disease twice, but was confronted with the diagnosis again in 2017. An exact cause of death was not given. Opposite to “TMZ” said a person close to the singer, “After a 30-year journey, she lost her battle with metastatic breast cancer.”

Before her superstar role on Grease, the British-Australian songwriter and breast cancer activist was no stranger to the spotlight, having had five number one hits on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart in the 1970s.
