Gravina: “Reform of the leagues and rules for sustainability by 2022”

The FIGC president at the end of the Federal Council: “It is time for the world of football to come out of this entrenchment”. Draghi sent an email to ask the government for a measure in view of the Italian candidacy for the 2032 European Championship. Ten stadiums identified to host him

We returned to talk about the reform of the leagues and the rules for the sustainability of the football system this morning in the Federal Council. The intention of the FIGC is to present a real industrial plan, which is based on solvency, stability and cost containment. The plan should take shape in the Council on 11 October, when an extraordinary Assembly will be convened for 12 December to amend the Statute on the subject of the reform of the championships, thus aimed at canceling the veto right of the individual leagues. In the FIGC it is still hoped to be able to avoid it by first reaching an agreement with all the components, but President Gravina is certain of one thing: “It is time for the world of football to come out of this entrenchment”. As for sustainability, he adds: “You have to spend what you have, not what you don’t have. We want to accompany the clubs on this path, not be punishers or divide into good and bad. Our goal is to make football safe. Italian”. And when asked about the possibility of introducing a salary cap he replies: “A choice in this direction seems impossible, there is nothing of the kind in Europe. When we studied something similar with the Uefa Commission, the European Union immediately intervened by banning it. because it is not compatible with market rules “.

The stadiums for the European Championship

President Gravina then spoke at length about the Italian candidacy for the European 2032: “On July 26, I sent Prime Minister Draghi an email asking for an intervention, as requested by UEFA, to present a dossier in view of the deadline of November 16. We need a guarantee from the government or even better a legislative measure declaring the existence of a public interest in the event “. Then work will begin on the dossier and in particular on the facilities: the stadiums chosen are ten, “on which the commitment of local administrations will also serve”. These are the plants in Rome, Turin, Milan, Naples, Bari, Palermo, Florence, Bologna, Genoa and Cagliari.

The agreement

At the end of the Federal Council, the renewal of the sponsorship between Net Insurance and the Italian Referees Association was signed, which will dress its 30,000 referees with the insurance company writing until 2025.
