Gravel specialist Tessa Neefjes owes cycling success to ‘bonusopa’

A new cycling season is about to begin for Tessa Neefjes. The 26-year-old cyclist from Wervershoof will be riding for LIV Cycling this year and will focus full-time on her sport. And especially on the gravel discipline. “I want to be world champion.”

The smile is always present on Tessa Neefjes’ face. That has sometimes been different in the past. In 2016, the West Frisian all-rounder crashed head-on into a truck during a training session in the Ardennes. Neefjes was literally in the creases. Partly thanks to Gerard Koomen’s treatments, she returned to top level. “I sometimes joke that it’s my bonus grandfather.”

The first real competition for Neefjes is scheduled for April 30. The Gravel World Series in Valkenburg.
