Grass track racer Romano Hummel from Hoogkerk wins spectacular final in Aduard. Dave Meijerink surprisingly third

Grass track racer Romano Hummel from Hoogkerk won the final of the international specials in Aduard on Saturday evening.

Before that, the 24-year-old from Groningen mainly had to deal with the Dane Jacob Bukhave, who eventually finished second. Hummel only really got up to speed on the elongated circuit in Aduard after a mediocre start. To the cheers of his home crowd, the driver worked his way forward. At high speed, Hummel drifted spectacularly past leader Bukhave on the outside of the bend and captured first place.

Romano Hummel will not relinquish first place

Hummel then did not relinquish it, so that he could ride his lap of honor as the glorious winner. After Bukhave, the Frenchman Steven Labouyrie crossed the finish line in third place. But he would be dropped to sixth and last place in the final, much to his fury. Labouyrie had lost part of a fender on the way. Although he had not done so on purpose, he was punished. Because a motorcycle must cross the finish line in the same condition as it was at the start.

Furious Steven Labouyrie doesn’t understand it

The furious Frenchman did not understand this and protested strongly to the race management. He remained adamant. As a result, Dave Meijerink from Schuinesloot moved from fourth to third and still ended up on the podium. Mika Meijer from Winschoten then finished fourth and Henry van der Steen from Oude Bildtzijl fifth. The unfortunate Labouyrie thus finished last in the grand final.
