The Saturday of the professional race was also the day for collecting the bib and race pack for the amateur cyclists who will be competing in the Gran Fondo Strade Bianche Enel. Inside the Sportful designer jersey and thermal vest, which will come in handy in this edition characterized by an uncertain climate, certainly cold and humid. After days of pouring rain, the weather offered a partial respite: the hope is that no more water will fall from the sky, at least until the amateurs arrive in Piazza del Campo in Siena.

This year, the Granfondo Strade Bianche Enel has a record number of participants. There are over 7000 registered for the race, it is no surprise that this event has already won its way into the hearts of enthusiasts as the real event not to be missed at the beginning of the season. The participation of so many enthusiasts not only underlines the importance of the race in the cycling calendar but contributes to creating an atmosphere of healthy competition among those who dream of feeling like Tadej Pogacar at least for a moment.

The excitement for the adventure that is about to begin is palpable among the members. Many of them confessed to us that they had dedicated months of preparation to this event, training hard to face the Crete Senesi. During the classic trip on the eve of the Tolfe climb, the conversations of many participants focused on the choice of bike, with the doubt between racing and the increasingly high-performance gravel bikes. The 2024 Granfondo Strade Bianche Enel promises to once again be an exceptional event, full of challenges and beauties, despite the difficulties linked to the weather and the condition of the dirt roads. This race is not simply a competition; it is an adventure, an experience that promises to be unforgettable for all those who are here, ready to face it. All that remains is to find the right tire pressure for a terrain that will be muddy but also compact at times: we start at 8 on Sunday morning.
