Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five: Melle Mel arrested on charges of domestic violence

The rapper and hip-hop pioneer has been accused of hitting a woman. He’s currently out on bail.

Rapper Melle Mel was arrested Monday, June 26 for alleged domestic violence in Los Angeles. A woman accuses Mel of punching her in the face and hurting her eye. The former member of hip-hop combo Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five denies the allegations.

Melle Mel is said to have assaulted in a hotel room

The alleged victim Jori Jordon accuses Mel in a video on her Facebook profile that the rapper hit her in the eye for no reason. Melvin Glover, Melle Mel’s real name, described another version of the events in an interview with the US American “Rolling Stone”. Glover took Jordon to his Los Angeles hotel room the night after the 2023 BET Awards. When she refused to leave his room later that night, Mel reportedly attempted to remove Jordon from a room. She then looked at herself and asked Melle Mel to take her to the hospital.

“She claims I punched her in the eye. But she also said that she had eye surgery a month ago. If I had actually hit her, she would have cut her eye because of my rings. It would have been a lot worse. Something happened to her eye, but I didn’t hit her. Something must have happened in the scuffle when I tried to get her out of my room,” the New Yorker protested his innocence.

Melle Mel is currently at large after posting $50,000 bail. A first court hearing will be held on July 17, 2023.

Mel isn’t the first member of Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five to stand trial. In May 2022, Glover’s brother Nathaniel, aka The Kidd Creole, was sentenced to 16 years in prison for manslaughter.
