April 29, 2022, Hamburg – The big birthday party for the 110th birthday of the Alsterhaus took place yesterday evening. The “Grande Dame” on Jungfernstieg showed itself from its most golden side and welcomed around 1,500 guests, who celebrated and danced until the early hours with food, drinks and champagne after closing time.

Alexandra Bagehorn, General Manager of the Alsterhaus and André Maeder, CEO of the KaDeWe Group, welcomed the guests in the 700 square meter Shoe Hall, which was transformed into a dance floor with a light show and entertainment program especially for the event. The Golden Girls and an oversized pink birthday 110 were the most popular photo opportunities of the evening.

Moderator Till Demtrøder, together with Alexandra Bagehorn, drew the winners of the big anniversary competition. There were exclusive prizes to be won, including a dream trip from Cunard or a dinner at the Nikkei Nine restaurant on the Binnenalster. In the run-up to the event, tickets to the birthday party, including the prize draw, were available at a price of 110 euros.

The focal points of the birthday event were the beauty department and the exclusive Louis Vuitton pop-up store on the ground floor, as well as the fashion floors, which presented themselves to the guests of the evening in radiant splendor and in a new design. And for a very special reason: according to the interior design master plan by Kleihues + Kleihues, the menswear on the 1st floor, designed by Norm Architects, was just before and the womenswear on the 2nd floor, designed by Bernard Dubois Architecs, during the lockdowns caused by the pandemic quietly completed. Yesterday evening the completion of the areas could finally be properly celebrated. The conversion of the Alsterhaus, which has been ongoing since 2016, is now complete except for the 4th floor (food).

The evening program of the 110th birthday party included culinary highlights from street food and fine dining to sweets as well as cocktails and champagne at numerous bars that were waiting to be discovered. Established figures of Hamburg’s gastronomy and gourmet scene provided local and international creations and delicacies for the physical well-being, including star chefs such as Brian Bojsen and Thomas Sampl as well as the restaurants Nikkei Nine and The Dining Room by Fraser Suites. As a special live act, the band Caramel Club and DJane Mika Henning provided a great party and dancing atmosphere in the Shoe Hall, embedded in a spectacular light show by the light and laser specialists from Bocatec.

Many varied entertainment highlights invited the guests to experience a very special night in the traditional department store: in the make-up studio or with the tattoo artist, with a fortune teller reading the cards or with live portrait drawing. The symbiosis of fashion, lifestyle and experience could be experienced in a very special way that evening: the Alsterhaus was transformed into a fashion catwalk for one night, for which all the guests dressed up in a special way. The new, young faces of the most renowned model agencies in Hamburg caught the eye.

Alexandra Bagehorn, General Manager Alsterhaus: “What a celebration – it was an extraordinary anniversary evening with so many beautiful moments that our guests and I will remember for a long time. It fills me and all the employees at the Alsterhaus with great joy that we were able to properly and appropriately celebrate our ‘Grande Dame’, her tradition and her focus on the future.

Many thanks go to our city of Hamburg, without which the Alsterhaus would be unthinkable – here’s to the next 110 years! I cordially invite all those who could not be there yesterday to be inspired by our new fashion areas.”

Numerous customers of the Alsterhaus as well as prominent guests were present at the grandiose birthday party, including Scooter Frontman HP Baxxter, Marion Fedder, entrepreneur Dana Schweiger, presenter Nova Meierhenrich, author Ildikó von Kürthy, actress Esther Roling, actor Nick Wilder, actress Jessica Stockmann, Presenter Susanne Böhm and Instagram star André Borchers
