The accident took place on Sunday. The child’s father and grandfather were at home working in their warehouse and hadn’t noticed that the toddler had slipped in. The girl was crushed moments later by the forklift her grandfather was driving. The man had not seen his granddaughter.
Emergency services tried to resuscitate the girl, but she died at the scene. The victim’s relatives are currently receiving psychological assistance.
“It is dramatic,” says Draguignan’s public prosecutor Patrice Camberou at Le Parisien. An investigation has been opened into the exact circumstances of the drama, although it is almost certain that it was a tragic accident.
