Grandchildren run Ice Palace, grandma Kors (99) sees it’s good: “The circle is complete”

The IJspaleis Driehuis is a household name in the IJmond. If the weather is even slightly nice, a line immediately forms on the sidewalk of the store. That has been the case for decades and if it is up to the new owners, it will remain so for years to come. Karol and Adrian Kors have taken over the business from their cousin Rob Kok, who has run the ice cream parlor for over 25 years.

Karol and Adrian grew up in the Ice Palace, as it were. Their parents have been in the business for years and before that their grandfather and grandmother. Grandma Kors is now 99 years old and performed the opening act. An emotional moment. “It is very special that first my children and now my grandchildren sell ice cream here. I think it is wonderful. It is a beautiful final part of my life, the circle is complete,” Oma Kors tells NH Nieuws.

Grandma Kors was presented with the first ice cream, an Oublie cone with vanilla ice cream, her favorite, and immediately had some tips for her grandsons. “Make sure you always have clean hands and nails and do your job with a smile.”

The new owners have worked hard over the past few months to master ice cream making, because although they were born in the business, they had no experience. Karol: “We have really done our best in recent months and we think that we make beautiful, artisanal ice cream. Not only do our parents and grandmother think so, but also people in the neighborhood. That is a nice compliment.”
