Grammy grudge? Lana del Rey poses with a gun in her hand

Following the 66th Grammys Awards, the hashtag #JusticeForLana is trending on social media. Because Lana Del Rey had to go home empty-handed again, even though she had the chance to win a trophy five times. So far, the pop singer has been nominated for the music award eleven times – but she has yet to win.

Now she has published several pictures and short clips on Instagram with which she reflects on the Grammy evening. Among other things, there are photos with producer Jack Antonoff, pop star Taylor Swift and actress Margaret Qualley. Finally, the 38-year-old added a selfie in which she posed in a babydoll dress with a gun in her right hand.

Conjecture and a wave of memes about the selfie promptly broke out. Fans who think she’s long overdue for a Grammy suspected Del Rey herself might feel the same way, which is why she released this aggressive photo. While she herself didn’t make any further statements – whether grudge or not – about the picture, the Internet is coming up with possible explanations for the selfie.

What happened at the Grammys: When Swift was honored for Album of the Year (a category in which Lana Del Rey herself was also nominated), the 34-year-old unexpectedly brought the singer and friend on stage for her acceptance speech. Swift included her in her speech and made it clear that without the 38-year-old’s music and inspiration, many artists would not be where they are today.

Jack Antonoff also thanked Lana Del Rey when he won a Grammy for Producer of the Year – including for Lana Del Rey’s album DID YOU KNOW THAT THERE’S A TUNNEL UNDER OCEAN BVLD).

Missed the Grammy by a hair’s breadth

Another bitter pill to swallow is the fact that Lana Del Reay, despite singing on Swift’s album MIDNIGHTS – the “Album of the Year” – was not given a gramophone at the event due to a new rule change.

If the pop singer’s record had been released a year earlier, Del Rey would have also received a Grammy. Previously, the artists who appeared on an album that won an award were also named as winners. However, this rule has changed in 2024.

The Recording Academy has now stipulated that artists must now be involved in at least 20 percent of the LP in order to receive a nomination. Since Del Rey only participated in one song, she did not meet this new requirement.

New album before the 67th Grammys

Lana Del Rey recently announced her new country album LASSO. As part of the event, she shared further details about the work, which is scheduled to appear in 2024. It will probably be released in September – before the next Grammy Awards.
