Grachtenfestival back after corona: ‘Meppel as Meppel is intended’

The public was able to enjoy the Grachtenfestival in Meppel again for the first time after corona. Chairman Arnold Schuurman of the festival hopes to put the corona years behind him. “Corona is now a beer and we’ll leave it at that.”

Today it is mainly about having fun for the chairman. “With boats, artists, shanty choirs and accordionists. Just geniality and conviviality against the backdrop of the historic city. Meppel as Meppel is meant to be,” says Schuurman.

The public is also happy that the festival is back. “It is pleasantly busy. There are many people and there is a lot to see. You can watch people or boats a bit,” she says. Other visitors also mainly focus on watching. “Very cozy. Perfect,” she says. We haven’t experienced much yet, but we have seen a lot. Very nice.”
