Lea Lin Teutenberg and Pauline Grabosch secured further German medals at the European Track Cycling Championships in Apeldoorn, Netherlands. The 24-year-old Teutenberg surprised with silver in the elimination race on Saturday, while the team sprint rider Grabosch came third in the 500 m time trial in 33.444 seconds.
Teutenberg (Mettmann), who won her first European Championship medal, was only beaten by road world champion Lotte Kopecky. The Belgian had also triumphed in the points race a few minutes earlier. The 25-year-old Grabosch from Magdeburg was behind the British Katy Marchant (33.319) and Taky Marie-Divine Kouame (33.356) from France.
Grabosch came out of the short winter break strong. At the start of the European Championships on Wednesday, the 25-year-old set a personal best time in the gold hat-trick in the team sprint with Lea Sophie Friedrich and Emma Hinze. Her highly decorated teammates skipped the time trial on Saturday. Instead, Clara Schneider was given a chance; the 19-year-old came eighth in the final in 34.682 seconds.
Tim Torn Teutenberg (Mettmann) missed the third precious metal of the day in the omnium. The German champion and brother of silver winner Lea Lin went into the final points race in fifth place after three of four disciplines, but ended up in sixth place with 105 points. The British Ethan Hayter (121) became European champion ahead of the tied Niklas Larsen from Denmark and the Belgian Fabio van den Bossche (118).
The last competitions in Apeldoorn are on the program on Sunday. This also includes the sprint discipline Keirin, in which Friedrich is competing as the defending champion. Franziska Brauße is also favored in the single pursuit after her European Championship gold last year.
