Grab the trend animal for FW22

Swans inspire compositions, ballet performances and also fashion designers. From skirt to dress, several looks draped in white feathers have been reminiscent of the magnificent animal – including Alexander Mcqueen’s iconic Fall 2009 collection and the current Casablanca Fall/Winter 22 collection. But not only the elegant plumage provides inspiration, the swan itself is also a popular motif that can currently be found in several collections.

Here you can find out which pieces the wearers use to attract more attention than swans in love!

Swans in love

Their long, arched necks create a heart shape when two swans approach each other – a popular photo motif and symbol of love, which is also used at weddings on cakes or as decorations.

Inspired by the affection of swans, stylist and creative PZtoday has teamed up with London-based label VeniceW to launch a bag. In the “Mr.&Mrs. Swanson” model, two necks loop together like swans in love and form the carrying handle.

The polyester bag is available in black and white. However, the original version is no longer available. But there are bags with small production errors, which are referred to as “beauty spots”, at a reduced price of 120 euros in the PZDirect online shop.

The Berlin designer Gerrit Jacob crowns the motif and dedicates a hat with golden decorations and pearls to the swans in love.

Schwanana table

The crown by Gerrit Jacob from the Fall/Winter 2022 collection is not currently available, but there is a different piece. The Central Saint Martins graduate also brings the swan to other pieces like a long leather coat and shirt. To do this, he uses a pressure that is reminiscent of the painting technique of an airbrush gun. The shirt is currently available in his online shop for 490 euros.

The Austrian Florentina Leitner has also integrated the animal into her collection. For the SS22 collection, which she presented during Berlin Fashion Week, she was inspired by the Mondsee in her homeland and therefore “absolutely wanted to incorporate swans into the prints,” Leitner explains to FashionUnited. The young designer finds swans: “elegant, sweet and snappy, just like my collection.”

The ‘Daishi Silk Dress’ by Florentina Leitner costs 585 euros and is available in her online shop.

Casablanca has also gone underground for FW22, bringing the swan to the collection in a number of guises, including as a motif on a blue fitted dress where the plumage is physically distinct from the dress. But there are also simpler pieces like t-shirts and sweaters that are decorated with a swan print.

swan transformation

The Parisian label offers the wearer the opportunity to transform themselves into an elegant swan and presents a voluminous, white feather dress that is closed high.

For those who don’t want to radiate happiness and harmony, or who simply don’t want white to be the right colour, there is also the black swan. The swan with the dark plumage is a symbol of mourning. Looks close to this particular swan were seen in Balmain’s Fall/Winter 2022 collections and Balenciaga’s 51st Haute Couture collection, which, with their black feathers, represent the elegance of the fashion houses and the swan.
