Gözübüyük explains the controversial penalty, PSV accepts it

Referee Serdar Gözübüyük explained last week at PSV sports complex De Herdgang about the controversial penalty to Feyenoord last May. This is reported by De Telegraaf. That penalty eventually ensured that the Eindhoven team saw the title chances disappear and had to settle for second place in the competition.

In the run-up to the new season, the top referees of the Eredivisie visit all clubs to update them on all the new rules. Gözübüyük himself would have asked to do that at PSV.

Doubtful
During that meeting with general director Marcel Brands, technical director John de Jong and the group of players, the much-discussed penalty was also discussed. According to sources, the referee would have explained that Pol van Boekel, the VAR on duty, was not allowed to call him to the screen along the sidelines, because it was a doubtful case.

Why the KNVB later indicated that Van Boekel should have done that would still be unclear to Gözübüyük, writes. The Telegraph. Anyway: the people of Eindhoven would have accepted the explanation, which means that there can now be definitive sand over the past season.
