Government offices at Mandemaat in Assen are being demolished, new construction costing 62 million

The wrecking ball goes into the government offices at Mandemaat 3 in Assen. The building complex from the eighties no longer meets today’s requirements. That is why new buildings will be built for the 1,300 civil servants of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) and the ICT Implementation Service (DICTU). Costs are around 62 million euros.

Initially, the Central Government Real Estate Agency wanted to renovate the office complex and make it more sustainable. But on closer inspection this turned out to be a technically complex and expensive operation. New construction ultimately turned out to be cheaper. Construction company Hegeman is rebuilding a sustainable, energy-efficient and flexible building on the site.

The current building will be demolished as circularly as possible. The intention is that the new building will be partly made from materials from the old building. Since last week, a demolition company has been busy ‘harvesting’ all kinds of old materials for reuse. This includes window frames, floor and ceiling panels and stones.
