They are still coalition partners. From Wednesday, when the repeat election is officially announced, but mainly competitors. Franziska Giffey (44) attacked Greens front woman Bettina Jarasch (53, transport senator) at the SPD party conference at the weekend
“We don’t do washcloth politics,” Giffey etched, alluding to her challenger’s cat wash recommendation to save energy. The SPD politician continued: “The tip is not help, it is a mockery!”
The word “Greens” or the name “Jarasch” was not mentioned in her speech – but the around 270 delegates understood every allusion, cheered, clapped.
Giffey about…
►… the lousy cycle path record of the transport senator: “We’re not talking about the fact that it would be nice if there were bike lanes. And then you look at the statistics and maybe someone will finish it.”
►… about the failed blocking of Friedrichstrasse: “Nobody has leased the traffic turnaround. But we need one that works. One that doesn’t celebrate model projects. It must be clear who stands for blossoming dreams and who for pragmatic politics.”
And further: “Regardless of who claims what now: We made the 29-euro ticket for Berlin.“
►… about green clientele politics: “We just don’t do politics for those who are with us anyway. It’s about the question of who stands for the whole city, who is going for balance?”
Next Wednesday, the constitutional court will decide whether the Berlin elections must be repeated throughout the city after the breakdown elections in February. Actually, there are still three months in which the Giffey/Jarasch team has to function. Or was that already the break?
