The news that Floortje Dessing came with yesterday was quite a shock: she has been out of the picture for so long because of a very intense disease process. “I got the toughest painkillers in the world.”
The show media are full of it: the big interview with which Floortje Dessing in the Linda stands. In this she tells for the first time why she has not been on TV for years: endometriosis. “It is a condition in which the womb lining that normally only holds the inside of the womb, also nestles outside the womb.”
‘Really a junk’
Floortje got a very rare form for her choosing, so that her half liver, a piece from her diaphragm and her lung has been removed. The pain was impossible, she says. “Terribly a lot. The first two months after the operation I got oxycodon for it, the toughest painkiller there is,” she says.
Oxycodon is twice as strong as morphine and very addictive. “Absolutely, I was really a junk. When I stopped, I got huge withdrawal symptoms. I became very depressed, could only cry.”
Kick off
Professional help was needed to kick off, says Floortje. “The doctors in the hospital have had to help me get off. I remember the moment I saw myself back in the mirror and had to cry very much. I didn’t look: I had lost ten kilos, much too skinny, everything hung.”
That is what the whole process did with her. “I am not at all concerned with staying young, but I was genuinely sad about my own mirror image. Especially the realization that I was so sick.”
Pirate
How are you now? “Now I have such a large pirate core across my stomach. To be honest, it still feels like they have sawn my belly in half, which means that sleeping and walking are not really going well.”
She has been ‘in principle repaired’. “The gap in my diaphragm is closed with collagen and my liver has grown again. I am walking a versession, do yoga and now have to carefully start strength training to make my muscles stronger. (…) If my recovery goes well, I hope to come up with a travel program again somewhere in 2026.”
