Gorilla Gyasi (20) from Apenheul passed away | Inland

Research has shown that Gyasi had a bacterial infection. The other gorillas in the group are doing well and are being watched closely. Gyasi’s son Kiango, the first offspring of Bao Bao, is well taken care of by the gorilla group.

With the death of Gyasi, the group in Apenheul now consists of eight gorillas. They live in two groups on different islands. With the death of Gyasi, the group will have to get used to the new composition, but according to the zoo, this is not expected to have a major impact. For Bao Bao, because of the good relationship he had with her, and her 1.5-year-old son Kiango, the change will be greater. The care of a young is shared in a gorilla group. Kiango gets on well with the other animals in the group and it looks like they are now taking care of him too. The caretakers keep a close eye on this.

strong character

Gyasi was born in Apenheul twenty years ago. She was a daughter of Dalila and silverback Bongo, one of the gorilla icons in Apenheul. Gyasi was characterized from an early age by her strong character. Despite being the youngest lady in the group, with all her spunk and sometimes rebellious pranks, she was a lady that the older gorillas also took into account.

The gorillas are simply visible to visitors.
