Gordon gets quite a false reaction from his ex-fiancée Gavin Rozario now that his comeback has failed miserably. Stella Bergsma calls on: “Stop the bullying!”
The circle is complete: Gordon heralded his big comeback with a disgusting sneer at his ex-fiancée Gavin Rozario and now that comeback has failed miserably, that Australian young man is back in the party. “Just sitting here enjoying the juice“, he writes on Instagram, accompanied by a photo of himself sipping a pack of ‘juicy juice’.
Stella in the breach
It is of course a big kick, and in the case of Gavin that is perhaps understandable, but in general we should give Gordon a rest now, says columnist Stella Bergsma. She states that bashing the fallen singer goes way too far and asks Instagram for restraint.
Stella thinks it’s horrible that Goor has canceled everything because of the persistent criticism. “I personally think this is really upsetting. Look, it’s fine if you’re not a fan of someone or don’t like someone. Then you don’t buy a ticket and it’s done. And I can even understand criticism of someone, especially if it is substantive.”
‘This is bullying!’
However, Gordon goes further than substantive criticism, Stella believes. “It’s just bullying. After Madonna and Mia & Dion, you would sometimes think that singing out of tune is some kind of capital crime. That’s not it. It’s just singing out of tune. It does not legitimize mass bullying behavior at all.”
“I suspect that people who are so-called ‘critical’ have completely different motives. Things like resentment, jealousy and own frustrations. People then see that apparently bon ton is to collectively step on someone and then happily join in. Especially if the person is already on the ground. I call it ‘failure joy’ and think it’s medieval.”
Homophobia
Maybe it is also homophobia, says Stella. “I never understood the massive hatred for Gordon anyway. What has he ever done wrong? Is it that he’s gay? Lead an eventful life? That he is human and vulnerable? That he sometimes makes a joke about someone else? Is that it?”
“I’ve always found him funny, funny and cheerful. And he doesn’t have the biggest voice, but he does have soul in his thunder. If someone makes something you don’t like, why not leave them alone? No artist deserves a constant stream of hate messages. Not a single person, actually.”
Hope for Gerard
There is actually only one thing that can save Gordon, it is often said, and that is the goodwill of Gerard Joling to make another season of Over De Vloer. “I think that in terms of his TV career he is completely dependent on Gerard Joling. If he doesn’t get in… He’s worth nothing alone,” Johan Derksen recently shouted.
Albert Verlinde then: “But Gerard is not going to do that. That is very sad for Gordon, because Gerard has everything. And a TV career and he still has hits. And he can sing too.”
