Gordon does not dare to join his critics in Today Inside. “At one point he demanded that there should be an orchestra that cost 6,000 euros.”
It is not the first time: just like in 2019, when Gordon canceled a confrontation with Angela de Jong at De Wereld Draait Door at the very last minute, he now does not dare to appear in the lion’s den. Last night, despite a promise to table guest Olcay Gulsen, Gordon did not appear with his biggest critics in Today Inside.
Call Wilfred
What exactly is it? The day before yesterday, Gordon was a guest with Olcay in the talk show Jeroen & Sophie. “I think he had first negotiated that no one could talk about Today Inside, but it was the first sentence he said himself and then we had a small discussion about it,” says Olcay in the Today Inside From yesterday.
She continues: “And then he said, ‘Why don’t they invite me? Because I can just sing there!’ So I said, ‘But why don’t you just come?’ He said, ‘Well, they never invited me.’ I said: ‘But would you like me to call Wilfred and ask this?’ He thought it was a fantastic idea, he was super enthusiastic.”
Manager not happy
Olcay arranged it immediately. “I thought: well, that’s nice TV, right? He was really excited, so I walked out to call you and I walked back and his manager was like, “Yeah, we need to discuss that.” I think he already saw the storm, so he wasn’t that enthusiastic at all.”
Johan Derksen thinks it’s cowardly. “He could have completely bluffed us off by singing the stars from heaven here. Then we would all have been made to look like fools here.”
Olcay: “But what if he hadn’t sung well?”
Johan: “That’s what I actually expected.”
Whole orchestra there
Wilfred Genee states that Gordon really did everything to get out of it. “At one point there was an additional requirement that the entire orchestra had to be present. I don’t know if that will make him sing better, but it could be. That’s just not possible in our studio,” he says The Telegraph.
How much should that orchestra cost according to his manager? Evert Santegoeds in Show news: “We had contact during the morning and it turned out that Gordon would very much like to bring his orchestra. That will cost 6,000 euros. Well, if the men from VI just patched up, that would have been easy, but that was not the intention.”
Shameful
Gordon just used it as an excuse, Evert expects. “I think he used that as a retreat, that orchestra, to cancel. It would have been a kind of audition for him and that is a bit embarrassing given his track record. I think he would have been so nervous that he wouldn’t have sung well anyway.”
Colleague William Rutten, who is close friends with Gordon, believes that VI should have released that budget: “Then you should also be as sporty as VI to say: ‘We will pay for that.’”
1.5 million viewers
However, it was not about budget, but about lack of space in the studio: Gerard Joling is always in the studio with a maximum of two dancers. “Of course they would have liked to do it, because you are sure you would have scored 1.5 million viewers. Everyone wanted to see this, so they can easily raise that 6,000 euros,” says Bart Ettekoven.
At one point, Gordon shouted that he had a job in Belgium, according to Wilfred. Does he believe that? In De Telegraaf: “Hahahaha. Yeah, I can’t say anything about it. Last night he really wanted it and today the desire is a little less, I think. Don’t know.”
