SBS 6 did not broadcast the Gordon show Wat Een Invention yesterday because of the Eurovision Song Contest. What seems? The repetition that replaced it scores even better!
After two episodes of the Gordon show Wat Een Invention, SBS 6 has decided to interrupt the series for one week due to the tough competition with the Eurovision Song Contest. Instead of the third episode, a repeat of Het Roer Om was shown last night.
Very painful
Painfully enough, SBS 6 manages to score better with a repeat against the Eurovision Song Contest than with a brand new show by Gordon without the Eurovision Song Contest as a competitor. Where it got stuck at 389 thousand viewers (8.9 percent market share) last week, Het Roer Om attracted 461 thousand viewers (9.6 percent) yesterday.
Tina Nijkamp, the former channel boss of SBS 6, finds this very painful. She writes on her analysis channel: “RTL 4 and SBS 6 had many reruns on the program due to the Eurovision Song Contest, SBS 6 even the whole evening. Unfortunately, the rerun of Het Roer Om scored better than Gordon last week with Wat Een Invention.”
Alarm bells
Gordon’s TV career is in dire straits. “Another viewing figure setback for Gordon. If a repeat (with a cost of 0 euros) scores better than a new program, the alarm bells will go off. After the disappointing figures for Down The Road, it is clear that Wat Een Invention will probably not get a new season.”
Can Gordon not just shout very loudly that it all scores online? Well no. Tina: “The program is hardly watched in time. Ouch.”
Merciless, merciless.
Eurovision Song Contest
The endless final of the Eurovision Song Contest was the big number one yesterday with more than 1.8 million viewers (49 percent). “This is the lowest score since 2012”, writes Joost Maiburg, the viewing figure connoisseur of RTL Boulevard. “That year, the Netherlands also did not have a place in the final and less than 1.1 million viewers watched.”
Since then, the Netherlands was only not in the final in 2015. “That year, almost 2 million viewers watched.”
