Göppingen lost to newly promoted HSV Hamburg 24:28 (10:13). With a largely disappointing performance, Frisch Auf missed the great opportunity to set themselves apart from the competition. The Swabians didn’t even benefit from a red card against Hamburger Lukas Ossenkopp (24th minute).
The hosts failed too often at the former Stuttgart and today’s HSVH keeper Johannes Bitter, who made twelve saves. Casper Mortensen scored the goal to make it 21:14 for the guests with a backhand throw (43rd). Bitter for Göppingen: National player Sebastian Heymann had to leave the field early with an injury.
Löwen are narrowly defeated by Lemgo, Balingen with a damper in the relegation battle
The Rhein-Neckar Löwen suffered a setback in the race for international places in the Handball Bundesliga (HBL). After four wins in a row, the two-time German champion lost 23:24 (13:14) to TBV Lemgo Lippe on Thursday. Three games before the end of the season, the lions are three points behind fifth place, which entitles them to participate in the European League, with 30:32 points.
National player Jannik Kohlbacher was the most successful thrower for Mannheim with seven goals, and they could miss out on international business for the first time in 16 years. At Lemgo, last season’s cup winners, Iceland’s Bjarki Mar Elisson impressed with seven goals in front of 2,653 spectators.
In the relegation battle, HBW Balingen-Weilstetten suffered a bitter 27:31 (13:16) defeat at TSV Hannover-Burgdorf. In the 53rd minute, the Balingen team were still level at 25:25.
