According to a recent study, Google’s Chrome browser is only able to block users from accessing malicious websites in about one in four cases. The survey was conducted by Which? and reported on it Independent.
The survey covered 800 recently discovered fishing sites. Of these sites, Chrome blocked only 28 percent on Windows and 25 percent on Mac.
Which? repeated the test in other browsers. Mozilla’s Firefox fared much better, blocking access in 85% of cases on Windows and 78% on Macs.
There are really a lot of fishing sites on the go. Criminals try to lead people to these sites to fill in their personal and banking information through various scam messages. These sites can also be used to try to spread malware and viruses.
Currently, the Flubot malware is spreading rapidly in Finland, which is being spread through links to scam messages.
A Google spokesman told Independent that the report is difficult to comment on because it has not seen the report in its entirety. Google said before that it was questioning the results of the investigation.
