National handball player Patrick Groetzki will be absent from cup winners Rhein-Neckar Löwen indefinitely. Whether the HBL star’s participation in the European Championships in Germany is at risk remains unclear for the time being.
As the cup winner announced, the 34-year-old is suffering from an “injury to the plantar fascia (sole of the foot)”. According to the Lions, it “cannot be defined” how long the captain has to take a break.
It is therefore unclear whether Groetzki’s participation in the home European Championships for German handball players is in danger.
With a strong season so far, he is considered a candidate for the German Handball Federation (DHB) squad. The tournament opens on January 10th in Düsseldorf, the final will take place on January 28th in Cologne.
