A turbulent week, in which peripheral matters predominated at FC Volendam, ended tonight in a narrow defeat against Feyenoord: 2-1. The Palingboeren were able to resist the leader of the premier league for a long time. After the 1-0 lead for FC Volendam thanks to Daryl van Mieghem, Feyenoord won the match thanks to goals from Santiago Gimenez and Damon Mirani (own goal).
Jonk opted for three other players in the base against Feyenoord compared to the game against FC Emmen. Damon Mirani, Brian Plat and Calvin Twigt kicked off. Josh Flint and Florent Sanchez Da Silva sat on the couch. Franco Antonucci was completely missing. Contrary to expectations, Daryl van Mieghem took the lead after twelve minutes. After that, a lot went wrong at Feyenoord, which did too little with possession. Passes did not arrive and crosses were always blocked or cleared. Volendam came out well twice via Henk Veerman, but the tall striker did not have his sights sharp. Feyenoord could only counter this with an opportunity for Santiago Gimenez.

Seven minutes after the break, Gimenez was accurate. He rounded off a cross from Lutsharel Geertruida from close range: 1-1. A big downer for Volendam, which started the second half strongly. Oskar Buur came out dangerously in the box, but his shot was blocked at the last moment. Gimenez remained the most dangerous man on the Rotterdam side, as he forced Filip Stankovic to make a great save.
Huge opportunity Veerman
The Serbian goalkeeper was at the basis of a great opportunity for Volendam halfway through the second half. His kick-out unexpectedly went through and Veerman had a free passage. The striker shot wide again. A bet by Sebastian Szymanski was blocked moments later. Feyenoord pressed more and more and took the lead in the 74th minute. Mirani passed his own goalkeeper from close range with a cross from Gimenez: 2-1.
The central defender could have scored on the other side, but his header went just over. Xavier Mbuyamba was shown the red card in stoppage time. He floored the broken Ezequiel Bullaude. As a result, the defender was suspended in the home game against Fortuna Sittard on Friday.
