GOMOS and Norger Tennis Association can get started. The municipality transfers 2.3 million euros for new club buildings

Football association GOMOS and the Norger Tennis Association can build a new clubhouse. The Noordenveld municipal council gave the green light on Wednesday evening for a municipal contribution of 2.3 million euros.

The club building of VV GOMOS in Norg is 40 years old and needs to be replaced, according to the board. A new complex should be built on the current site with a canteen, kitchen, changing rooms and space for a physiotherapist; energy neutral and equipped with a green roof and solar panels.

The total costs for this are estimated at more than 3 million euros. The municipality will cover 60 percent of these costs: more than 1.8 million euros. A similar construction has been devised for the Norger Tennis Association.

‘Too big a risk’

Thanks to the popularity of padel, the tennis club is growing. The club now has 550 members. That is why a new clubhouse is needed, including a covered terrace and larger changing rooms. The costs are estimated at 900,000 euros. The municipality pays 540,000 euros. Both associations want to raise the rest of the money through sponsors, subsidies and their own resources. Any setbacks will be borne by the associations themselves.

The council agreed with those plans. The CDA was against. “We grant both associations a good home base, but see that both plans are based on estimates and not on concrete price quotes,” said group leader Astrid Westra-Wagena. “In our view, this is a major financial risk and we are against it to protect these associations.”

Despite the warning from the CDA, both associations can still get started, because the other council factions saw enough opportunities for the associations to make adjustments if the costs were disappointing. Both the tennis club and GOMOS hope to start the construction of their new clubhouses in 2024.

Survival Norg in the waiting room

Meanwhile, the Survival Norg Foundation is in the waiting room. This association would use the new accommodation of the Norger Tennis Association as a tenant, but there is still too much uncertainty about this.

Survival Norg is therefore also looking at other locations in and around the village. The municipality will decide at a later date about this move and about the tennis club’s plans to expand the number of (padel) courts.

Making sports facilities more sustainable in Noordenveld

Earlier this year, the municipality of Noordenveld already released money for the renovation and sustainability of the hall of Tennis Club REO in Roden, making the club building of Voetbalvereniging Veenhuizen gas-free and new boarding for the Speed Center Roden.
