Golfer Corpuz wins US Open and receives Obama invitation

Former US President Barack Obama congratulated golfer Allisen Corpuz after her victory at the US Open and invited the Hawaiian to a personal round of golf.

“Congratulations to my Hawaiian compatriot Allisen Corpuz on winning the US Women’s Open! You make us all proud – and I look forward to a round in Kapolei!” Obama, who even went to the same school as Corpuz, wrote via Twitter.

The 25-year-old Corpuz surprisingly won the major tournament on the famous Pebble Beach golf course on the Californian coast by three shots against Charley Hull from England and Jiyai Shin from South Korea.

“Incredible. This week felt like a dream come true,” said Corpuz. For her first triumph ever on the LPGA Tour, she received two million US dollars in prize money. It is the highest prize money ever for a major win on the LPGA Tour.
