Gerard Joling has announced his very last solo concerts, but the reactions are quite skeptical. The visitors of NU.nl don’t believe a word of it. “He means cashing in quickly!”
The Final Countdown is the name of the two-day show with which Gerard Joling says he will conclude his great solo career in Rotterdam Ahoy in February 2027. It sounds big, it sounds definitive, and above all it is smart, because in the end the singer ‘says goodbye’ to something that has not been there for twenty years. After all, his last major solo show dates back to 2007.
Marketing trick
Since then there have been the Toppers, the snacks across the country, a TV career and now also the regular seat on Today Inside. But a big solo concert? Geer just didn’t do that anymore. Saying goodbye to something you haven’t done for two decades is of course a downright marketing trick.
It also takes care of visitors NU.nl for the necessary skeptical reactions. “Quite a nice celebrity, one of the few. But give everything again? He actually means: take everything again (in euros),” says a certain Geert.
Cashing
Theo fears that Gerard senses the end coming. “Note: as soon as an artist notices that his voice is failing him, he announces ‘one last show’ to cash in one more time.”
A certain Herman fears that there will be many farewell concerts to come. “Get a Soldier of Oranje feeling. If I got a euro every time they were busy with the last performances, I would have made quite a bit of money… Joling will also do the same to sell out the concerts.”
Fishmongers
René doesn’t believe it either. “’The Final Countdown’. Just like all those others, just cash in with a farewell tour and then continue happily, just like those Volendam fishmongers.”
One Bibi concludes: “Then I fear that he will join VI even more often. Personally, I find his humor and his way of thinking rather short-sighted and that constant laughing comes across as very artificial. And the songs? Even worse. But yes, that is my opinion…”
