Golfer Besseling makes major debut at US Open with one above par NOW

Wil Besseling held his own on the first day of the US Open. The 36-year-old golfer went round in 71 strokes on Thursday’s first day, one above the course average.

Besseling scored four bogeys, but also three birdies. This puts him at around 40th place for the time being. However, many players have yet to complete their first round.

For Besseling, the number 255 in the world, it is his first ever appearance in a major. He is also the first Dutchman to participate in the famous Country Club in Massachusetts since Joost Luiten in 2015. He then finished 39th.

Besseling just missed his first title at the European Open a week and a half ago by finishing second in Hamburg. In the German city, he assured himself of participating in the US Open.

Among others, the Englishman Callum Tarren and the Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy lead for the time being with 67 strokes. The US Open lasts through Sunday.
