The German golf idol Bernhard Langer played a weak second round at the 86th US Masters and missed the cut. The two-time Masters winner played 76 strokes on Friday’s 18 holes at Augusta National Golf Club Park and finished his second round four strokes over par.
After a 76 from the day before, Langer was already far behind after the end of the round on Friday with a total of eight over par on shared 78th place in the intermediate classification. Only the best 50 golfers make the cut.
“I drove great. I didn’t have a single bad drive and hit a lot of good irons, but the short game wasn’t good enough,” Langer said on “Sky”.
Meanwhile, superstar Tiger Woods had to contend with a lot of wind. The 46-year-old, who only started his second round at 7.41 p.m. German time, played a birdie in his first nine but also four bogeys and was two shots over par. Woods still had one after the first 18 holes on the first day Shot under par.
World number one Scottie Scheffler got off to a better start on his second lap. The American had two bogeys, but he got birdies on holes two, seven and eight. This put Scheffler in the lead after nine holes with a total of four strokes under par.
Langer, who won the Masters in 1985 and 1993, got off to a solid start but made his first bogey of four on hole seven. Halfway through the second round, the Anhausen native was already five strokes over par when adding up both rounds. On the way back to the clubhouse on Magnolia Lane, Langer started with three bogeys in a row and further worsened his starting position to a successful cut. At the most prestigious golf tournament in the world, Langer never stayed below par on any hole.
