The Indigenous actress won the Golden Globe for “Killers Of The Flowermoon.”
Lily Gladstone, the leading actress of “Killers Of The Flower Moon,” won the Golden Globe for best actress in the “Drama” category on Sunday (January 7). Not only was it her first nomination for the coveted Hollywood award, but Gladstone is also the first Indigenous woman to receive the award.
Mimin discussed her roots when she began her acceptance speech in the language of the Blackfeet, on whose reservation she grew up in Monatan. Gladstone then thanked her mother, “who, although not Blackfeet, worked tirelessly to bring our language into the classroom so that I could learn the language when I grew up.”
The actress continued: “I’m so grateful that I can speak a little bit of my language up here, which I don’t speak fluently. Because in this industry, the native actors spoke their lines in English, and in the past, sound engineers would just run it backwards to get the native languages on tape.”

The 37-year-old was correspondingly proud of the award as a “historic success” that didn’t just belong to her. “I hold it (the Golden Globe) in my hands at this moment. The actress concluded her emotional speech with all Native Americans in mind: “This is for every little kid on the reservations, every little kid in the city, every little Native kid out there who has a dream and sees themselves represented in our stories , which we tell ourselves, in our own words, with enormous trust from within, for and each other.”
The western crime thriller “Killers Of The Flower Moon” itself addresses the fate of an indigenous culture in America, as it tells the story of the Osage Nation. Lily Gladstone is likely to be the favorite to win the Oscars after her triumph at the Golden Globes, although Emma Stone, who also won a Best Actress award this Sunday (in the Comedy/Musical category, for “Poor Things”) ) of course also has good chances.
