Gold medal for emotional track cyclist Yoeri Havik at World Cup

Yoeri Havik has won a gold medal at the Track Cycling World Championships. The track cyclist from Avenhorn was ahead of the German Roger Kluge and the Belgian Fabio van den Bossche with 76 points.

It took until the fifty laps before a high number of points could be taken. Havik remained sharp and immediately took twenty points. The North Hollander was therefore directly at the top of the ranking.

Havik then dropped back a bit, but picked himself up when Kluge wanted to attack the lead. He rejected that attack and then simply cycled out of the race. It is for the Avenhorner the first medal at a World Cup. He did become European champion last year in the coupling race with Jan-Willem van Schip.
