They are the great pride of German winter sports: luge doubles Wendl and Arlt won their fifth Olympic gold on Wednesday. But they weren’t happy about all the well-wishers – one scene had a stale aftertaste, as pictures from the toboggan run show.
The two superstars of the toboggan scene are also known as “Die Tobis”: Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt have been on the toboggan together since they were young. The well-rehearsed duo from Bavaria therefore knows exactly what is important on the track. But the 34-year-old’s fifth Olympic gold this time was not a matter of course, because there was a scandal during the training phase.
Why the scene around Thomas Bach’s appearance on the toboggan run at Olympia caused trouble and why an incident in November seemed to spoil the mood of the toboggan athletes even after their gold run, find out here or in the video above.
