GOB heads for broad coalition in Sittard-Geleen | 1Limburg

Winner of the municipal elections GOB wants a coalition with broad support. The talks will start next Wednesday, confirms party leader Yvonne Salvino.

The local GOB became the big winner of the municipal elections in Sittard-Geleen with an increase from 9 to 12 seats

college
This gave the party the initiative to form a new college. The GOB has appointed three party celebrities to lead the talks: in addition to party leader Yvonne Salvino, there is also a role for alderman Leon Geilen and party chairman Pieter Meekels. In this way, the founder of the BRPS keeps a finger on the pulse when putting together the new coalition.

Broad support
On election night, Salvino already stated that he was striving for a coalition with broad support. “I think that’s important for the city.” Winner GroenLinks is also open to a return to college, despite the split six months ago. “That’s all in the game,” says party leader Kim Schmitz. “It is part of the political game that you sometimes get hit. But it is also part of meeting each other as a possible future administration of the city.”

wind farm
The current coalition of GOB, CDA and Stadspartij would also retain a small majority in the city council after the elections, with 22 of the 37 seats. An interesting question is what the role of GroenLinks will be in the new term of office. The wind farm in Holtum-Noord, the reason for the break in the previous coalition, is still firmly on the agenda. The BRPS wants to wait for new national rules regarding the nuisance of windmills, after the Council of State assessed the existing procedures as insufficient† As a local government, GroenLinks wants to define environmental standards itself, the BRPS wants to wait for the ministry. “Our position has not changed,” Yvonne Salvino reported Monday morning. “We still believe that Sittard-Geleen should wait for national guidelines, even if that takes a long time. We thought that last year and we still think that.”

Schwienswei
Another tricky point in the coalition talks is the arrival of a possible holiday park in the De Schwienswei nature reserve. The last coalition was in favor of this, winners PvdA and GroenLinks turned out to be sceptical. The discussion got so high that coalition parties CDA, GOB and Stadspartij decided to give a joint statement in response to an electoral guide for the area around the former CIOS course. Senator Ton Raven of the City Party sharpened the relations in the last election week by accusing opponents of lies† From next Wednesday it should become clear to what extent these subjects will leave their mark on the negotiations for a new coalition.
