Goaltje thief Sébastien Haller leaves Ajax for Borussia Dortmund

Sébastien Haller will leave Ajax after a year and a half. The 28-year-old striker will leave for Borussia Dortmund where a four-year contract is ready. The Amsterdam club receives a transfer fee of 31 million euros for Haller. The clubs already have a verbal agreement with each other and Haller will undergo a medical examination in Germany tomorrow.

The amount can even increase to 35 million euros due to bonuses. Halfway through last season, Ajax deposited around 22.5 million euros to untie Haller from West Ham United. This made him the most expensive purchase in the club’s history.

Haller came over from England in January 2021. Due to an administrative error, the striker was not eligible to play in the Europa League. Last season Haller made his European debut with Ajax against Sporting Lisbon. He scored four times in that match. In the Champions League, the counter remained at 11 goals in 8 matches and Haller was also extremely accurate in the Eredivisie with 21 goals in 31 matches.

Transfer Summer

The departure of Haller means that Ajax will start stirring on the transfer market in the search for a new striker. Brian Brobbey (rented from RB Leipzig) and Danilo (Feyenoord) also left Amsterdam this summer. Brobbey is mentioned for a possible return to Ajax and Steven Bergwijn of Tottenham Hotspur is also linked to a switch to the national champion.

Ajax is on the training field for the first time today. Alfred Schreuder will start his first working day with a thinned out selection, because the internationals are still missing. From June 27 to July 3, the selection will leave for De Lutte at a training camp.
